The 10th anniversary edition of LABITCONF starts in a matter of hours. To celebrate, the legendary convention returned to its native Buenos Aires. Tickets are sold out and the city is buzzing with activity, crypto celebrities and satellite shows. The following article is about two of them, both strictly bitcoin-focused, both starring the cream of the crop in Latin American bitcoin culture.
And Samson Moe, probably.

Events leading up to LABITCONF: Tuesday 8th, “Hablemos Bitcoin” on Crypstation
I already had tickets to Wednesday’s LABITCONF satellite event when this flyer popped up in my timeline:

I was in the middle of my work day, but I knew right away that I had to be there. It seemed like an introductory talk, but three of the leading bitcoin educators in the field were on the same bill. Over the years, Juan Bitter, btcandres and cryptobastardo have earned my respect. Also, La Bitconeta was about to appear. Also, it was at Cryptstation, a coffee shop that accepts all kinds of crypto payments and I didn’t go. It was a done deal. Even if I was going to lose money by not writing, I had to stay there.
An hour before the incident, I turned off the computer and hit the streets. The sun was shining when I arrived in Puerto Madero. So much so that I reached cryption in a sweat. The program had already started, so I couldn’t get into the bathroom. I had to watch the introductory speech look like Jordan Peele in famous memes, but it was fine. The crowd was small but engaged, most of them really wanting to learn about bitcoin. Were they warming up for LABITCONF like me?

As is usually the case, classic objections arose. What about quantum computers? What about DeFi and other alternatives? Is bitcoin old technology? Teachers were equipped to deal with those more questions, and so did they. Hopefully, the crowd took note and downloaded the correct wallet.
Wednesday 9th, “Bitcoin, Pizza, y Cerveza” in La Crypta
The place was amazing, I couldn’t believe it. An old house when people wanted things to last, air conditioned for crypto conferences and master classes. The ceilings were high, the main walls were covered with wood, and there were all kinds of details around the house. Plus, free pizza and beer. There was a rumor that Samson Mo was going to attend the event. I also saw another version of this flyer which pre-blockstreamed:

Sadly, Samson Mo’s plane was delayed. However, he will be here for LABITCONF. We are fortunate that Prince Philip of Serbia has stepped in. He recently joined Mow’s Jan3 organization and shared his experiences with us. Before, the Marcella Romero BFX Leos Community Introduced Pest, Bitfinex’s censorship-resistant peer-to-peer chat app.
After the two of them, Cryptobastardo gave a bitcoin introductory speech and schooled everyone on the importance of limited resources. He also told them that bitcoin was the first and only digital scarcity, a complex concept that is one of the ingredients of bitcoin’s greatness.

When all was said and done, we ate. And then La Crypta gave the ticket to LABITCONF. To choose the winners, one of their staff members programmed something that extracted numbers from a bitcoin block. that was amazing.
I planned on coming home to write this as soon as I got my hands on the LABITCOINF ticket, but I stayed at La Crypta to meet everyone, eat pizza, and drink beer. Overall it was an unprecedented day. Even if I lost money by not writing and all my procedures got delayed on the day of the holiday.
In fact, I just finished writing this and, in a matter of hours, I’ll be awake to go to LABITCONF to find great stories for you, dear reader. The things we do for love.
